TLS 216 User Manual

The following table shows how to use each accessory and describes its purpose.
Consult Appendix A of this manual for order/reordering information on
accessories listed in the table.

Accessory

Description

Y-LeadSet

Y-LeadSet — provides a convenient way to connect to two 0.025 diameter
connector pins when the pins are not immediately adjacent to each other. These
adapters can also be used with the SMT KlipChip to provide access to very small
signal and ground test points.

Because of the length of the signal lead, the Y-LeadSet configuration adds
inductance that should be taken into to account when probing frequencies over
30 MHz. Also, the length of the signal lead makes this configuration more
susceptible to signal crosstalk than other connection configurations.

SMT KlipChip

SMT KlipChip — provides hands-free attachment to a physically small signal or
ground sources. Use two KlipChips with the Y-LeadSet to provide ground and
signal attachments to surface-mounted devices.

Because of the length of the signal lead, the Y-LeadSet configuration adds
inductance that should be taken into to account when probing frequencies over
30 MHz. Also, the length of the signal lead makes this configuration more
susceptible to signal crosstalk than other connection configurations.

One-to-Two Adapter

One-to-Two Adapter — converts a pair of adjacent 0.025 diameter connector
pins to two pairs of 0.025 diameter pins. Use this adapter to attach two probes to
monitor the same signal as follows:

1.

Connect this adapter to a pair of signal and ground square pins on a circuit
board. Note the number on the adapter at the connection to the ground pin.

2.

Mount two probes, one to each of the two square pin pairs. Be sure to
match the number of the pin that you connected ground in step 1 to the
probe tip ground as you connect each probe tip to the adapter.

Note that connecting two probes across the same points doubles the loading on
the circuit under test.

Hand-Held
Adapter

Ground Lead

Hand-Held Adapter — provides a convenient way to probe circuit components
while holding the probe tip. The P6240 probe tip plugs into the back of the
adapter. A ground lead also plugs into the back of this adapter.

Ground Lead — provides a ground for the hand-held adapter. Align the ground
input of the probe with the ground lead connector.
