Managing the File System
The TLS 216 Logic Scope provides file utilities and a floppy disk drive for
saving, recalling, and otherwise managing the hardcopies, setups, and waveforms
you save to a 720 Kbyte or 1.44 Mbyte floppy disk. This article describes how to
manage these files using the File Utilities menu, which appears in the Hardcopy,
Save Setup, and Save Waveforms menus. The articles that contain descriptions
for saving and/or recalling hardcopies, setups, and waveforms are listed at the
end of this article. (See page 3–66.)
To Understand the File System
Before you use the file system, read about the conventions it uses when naming
files and about the the wild card files used to manage and to help store informa-
tion to the file system.
The logic scope saves files with names appended with default suffixes. These
default suffixes relate to the type of file saved. A file of the form:
FILENAME.GRP contains a saved waveform reference group. (See Figure 3-29.)
FILENAME.FMT contains a saved hardcopy. In this case, the suffix .FMT is
replaced by a suffix representing the currently selected hardcopy format. For
example, .TJ appears for ThinkJet hardcopies and .PCX for PCX hardcopies.
FILENAME.SET contains a saved logic scope control setup.
The logic scope file system provides “wild card” files to use in saving, copying,
and deleting files. These special purpose files are not real files, but they are used
to create or delete real files. A file of the form:
*.* selects all files in a directory.
TEK?????.GRP creates a new, uniquely named group file when you save a
waveform group from the Save/Recall Waveform menu.
TEK?????.FMT creates a new, uniquely named hardcopy file when you press
hardcopy and have set Port to File in the Hardcopy menu.
TEK?????.SET creates a new, uniquely named setup file when you save a logic
scope setup from the Save/Recall Setup menu.
The logic scope creates the default wild card files upon power up. (You can
rename the TEK?????. files, but they are renamed with their default names when
power is cycled.) To use these default files, you select the file with the suffix that
