12. <NETWORK> MENU
You can set the network settings of the DS unit at the <NETWORK> menu.
Cautions on Using a Network Environment
Consult your network administrator on the IP address to be used and other network parameters
when connecting the DS unit to your network per the following information. Basic knowledge
about Windows network system is required to set the network connection parameters.
Data transmission of the DS unit to the network will affect other device’s data transmission within
the same network, depending on the sampling frequency of the DS unit.
At shipping time, the DS unit has the factory settings shown below. Modify the settings (such as
the IP address) as necessary.
IP address: Not assigned
Subnet mask: Not assigned
Gateway: Not assigned
DHCP client
:
ENABLE
Host name: DS_xxxxxxxxxxxx (*s are numbers from 0 to 9)
To communicate at 1000 Mbps, all devices that exist in the path from the DS unit to the controller
PC must support 1000 Mbps. Use a cable that is Category 5 or better. To ensure
communications quality, we recommend that you use STP cables and a 1000BASE-T switching
hub that supports STP cables.
Depending on the network environment being used, it is possible you will encounter delays in
data transmission or congestion processing. In such a case, try the following to improve the
situation:
1) If a repeater hub is being used, change to a switching hub instead.
2) As much as possible, reduce the number of broadcast packets.
3) As much as possible, use a communications path that does not pass through a router.
However, in a situation such as when the DS unit is in a remote location and communications are
constrained by low-speed paths, use the DS unit with a lower sampling frequency.
If the PC enters the standby status while the DS unit is being used, communications will cease,
and a timeout will cause a disconnection. If you are using the PC for a long time, make sure the
system standby setting in the Windows power options is not selected.
When you select to record to the network drive, the recording may not be continued because
enough data transmission band via network is not secured depending on the sampling frequency
and numbers of channels settings. In this case, <TOO SLOW!> is displayed and the recording is
stopped right after recording start.
If you disconnect the LAN cable, the communication phase is suspended, but also causes
congestion processing. Make sure to terminate the application first to detach the DS unit from
the network. As well, do not turn off the power of the unit while the application is running.
Make sure DHCP server active before turning on the power of the DS system in case DHCP
ENABLE at the DS network setting.
Reflect the changes on the network settings by turning off and on the power of the DS system.
We recommend separating the network segment of the DS and the control PC from other network
by using a switch, a router/fire wall.
The DS system does not use any DNS/WINS/HOSTS functions, so assign the IP address directly.
To use the NTP server (131.107.1.10 for default setting), locate the DS system at the
environment to access to Internet.
Use the local NTP server if available by entering its IP address from the browser.
