Wiring Considerations

240-VAC operation. Monitors other than those supplied by
Elsag Bailey may require changes.
NOTE: Be sure the auxiliary terminals are powered using the same power
source and ground as the main terminal to reduce the chance of communica-
tion problems on the Ethernet. Failure to do so may cause data to be changed
or lost.
The recommended minimum size for power wiring is that it be
copper wire with a 2.1 square millimeter cross sectional area
(14-AWG) with a 600-volt, 75-degree Celsius (167-degree Fahr-
enheit) rating and thermoplastic insulation. Wire with a
300-volt or 150-volt rating may be used if it is accepted by local
wiring codes. Wiring must be protected by cable trays or con-
duit and suited for the service voltage.
Power wiring to the auxiliary terminal must include a
third-wire grounding conductor. This grounding conductor
must not be a smaller gauge than the power wiring and must
be bare, green colored or green/yellow colored if insulated. The
grounding conductor must be terminated at the system safety
ground connection on the front of the PEP.
Over-current protection provided for the AC distribution must
be sized to allow for the inrush current required by the hard-
ware. Refer to Table
for the inrush current.
For more information on power wiring, grounding, line condi-
tioning and EMI (electromagnetic interference), refer to the
instruction.
Access
shows physical footprints of the wiring access
cutouts.
Connections
There are five AC outlets on the PEP. Four are located on the
rear; two for color monitors, one for the power supply, and one
for the blower or auxiliary connection. The outlet on the front is
marked peripheral power and is for a magnetic tape drive or
other peripheral devices.
NOTE: AC outlets are only for external peripheral equipment listed in this
instruction. Do not connect motors, lights or test equipment to the AC outlets.
Electrical noise may cause data to be lost or changed.
