Preparing for the 24-Port Adapter Installation
2-4 Sylantro 24-Port Adapter Installation Guide
Network Requirements
Each end customer must have a 10/100-BaseT network connection routable to the
service provider to support the voice services offered by the Sylantro system.
The network connection to the service provider can be any type of IP connection,
such as fiber channel, one or more DSL lines, or a T1 line.
If the network connection to the service provider is a DSL modem or a single T1
line, a conversion device is deployed by the service provider at the customer site.
The conversion device should be connected directly to an Ethernet switch within the
customer site.
Within the customer site, the adapter is connected to the Ethernet switch closest to
the entry point.
Cabling Requirements
One or more standard 25 pair, 50-pin telephony cables with male Amphenol
connectors are required to complete the installation. The cable length depends on the
location of the adapter and the punch-down block. The number of cables required
depends on the type of adapter you are installing, analog or digital. One cable can
support up to 24 analog ports or eight digital ports. Obtain the correct number of
cables to complete the installation before proceeding.
Safety Requirements
When installing the Sylantro adapter, observe all caution and warning statements.
The following guidelines help ensure your safety and protect the equipment.
However, these guidelines may not cover all potentially hazardous situations you
may encounter during system installation.
■
The installation should comply with the National Fire Protection Association
(NFPA) 70, United States National Electrical Code.
■
Always disconnect all power cables before installing or removing the chassis.
■
Keep the chassis area clear and free of dust during and after installation.
Note:
Do not install the adapter behind a customers network firewall.
Firewalls typically prevent the transmission of voice traffic.
