10.2.5.1 Focus adjustment
1. The zero focus position of the adjusting module is pre-adjusted (about ± 0.2mm).
2. Starting position CCD-adjusting microscope:
- Reduce the pilot laser beam by means of the NG-filter (filter holder of the microscope).
- In case of time sharing, use “NG9 ~ 1%“ (Fig. 3).
- In case of energy sharing (beam splitting), the reduction with NG-filters is carried out such an
extent, until the condition of Fig. 3 is achieved.

3. Verification:
The minimum pilot laser beam diameter and
the best image sharpness of the fiber optic
cabel surface have to be situated in the
same focus position (i.e. for both conditions
the focussing ring is in the same position).
In Fig 3 a condition of this kind can be seen.
4. If point 3 is fulfilled, continue with point 7.
5. Carry out the focus adjustment (Fig. 2)
- Lightly tighten the screws item 10 and item 11.
- Release the screws item 12.
- Remove screw item 13.
- Install the adjusting aid (Art.No 41.9118) in item 13.
- The focus position can be changed by the rotating of item 13.
6. The adjustment is complete, when point 3 is fulfilled.
7. Check defocus value of the incoupling objective (see working range diagram).
If defocus value = 0.0 then continue with point 9.
If defocus value ≠ 0.0 then continue with point 8.
Note: The defocus value depends on the resonator type, incoupling objective and the max. average
power.
The defocus value is defined on the Working Range Diagram (WRD).
