Chapter 7: SAS2 BIOS Configuration Utility
Selecting a Boot Disk
You can select a boot disk in the SAS T
OPOLOGY
screenscreen. The next time you boot
the computer, the firmware moves this disk to scan ID 0, making it the new boot disk.
This makes it easier to set BIOS boot device options and to keep the boot device
constant during device additions and removals. You can also select an alternative boot
device. If the BIOS cannot find the preferred boot device when it loads, it will attempt to
boot from the alternate device.
Follow these steps to select a boot disk:
1. In the SAS2 BIOS Configuration Utility, select an adapter from the A
DAPTER
L
IST
screen (see Figure 7-1 ).
2. If a device is currently configured as the boot device, the B
OOT
O
RDER
column on
the screen lists the number 0 .
If a device is currently configured as the alternate boot device, the B
OOT
O
RDER
column shows a succeding number.
3. To change the boot order, use the +/- key to alter the boot order between the
controllers listed.
The Boot order moves to the disk you choose.
4. To change the boot list, use the I
NS
/D
EL
keys instead.
Changing Boot Support
You can change the boot support from the BIOS and the OS from the A
DAPTER
P
ROPERTIES
screen.
Follow these steps to select the boot support for the volume.
1. Select the desired SAS2 controller on the A
DAPTER
L
IST
screen (see Figure 7-1 ) and
press E
NTER
.
The A
DAPTER
P
ROPERTIES
screen appears (see Figure 7-2 ).
2. In the A
DAPTER
P
ROPERTIES
screen, scroll to the Boot Support row and use the +/-
keys to change the entry in the field. You may choose to enable either BIOS, OS or
E
NABLED
BIOS & OS for your boot support.
NOTE: The LEDs on the disk drives will flash as described above if the
firmware is correctly configured and the drives are in a disk enclosure.
