Fan Trays and Blower Assemblies
All systems have fan trays or blower assemblies that provide for
redundant cooling if one fan tray or blower assembly fails. The F6800 has
four fan trays (two in front and two in the rear) that collectively cool the
system, except for the power supplies. The F4810 and the F4800 have
three fan trays that also collectively cool the platform, except for the
power supplies.
The F3800 has four blower assemblies in the rear of the system that
provide front-to-back cooling. Three of the four blower assemblies cool
everything in the system except for the power supplies, which have their
own fans. The fourth blower assembly is a redundant blower assemblies
in case one of the blower assemblies is defective.
platform
Total Number of Fan Trays
Minimum Number of Fan Trays
F6800
Four fan trays (two in the
front, FT1 and FT3, and in the
rear, FT0 and FT2)
One fan tray (front, FT1) and two fan
trays (rear, FT0 and FT2). You can remove
the bottom (FT3) CPU fan tray. The
platform cools with the remaining three
fan trays.
F4810
Three fan trays, FT0, FT1, FT2
(front)
Two of the three fan trays must be
installed to cool the platform. The third
fan tray (lower CPU fan tray, FT1) is
redundant. You can remove the bottom
right fan tray on the CPU side of the
platform, FT1. The platform cools with
the remaining two fan trays, FT0 and
FT2, one pushing and one pulling.
F4800
Three fan trays; FT1 (front),
FT0 and FT2 (rear)
Two of the three fan trays must be
installed to collectively cool the platform,
FT1 and FT2. The third fan tray, FT0, is
redundant.
F3800
Four fan trays FT0, FT1, FT2,
and FT3 (rear)
Remove the upper left blower assemblies
when viewing the system from the rear,
FT1. The platform cools with the
remaining three blower assemblies, FT0,
FT2, and FT3.
