In- and Output Calibration 6-17
To carry out the initial calibration:
1. If not already connected, connect to the RAC with SUSI now, as
described in “Configuring the RAC with SUSI”, steps 1 through 12,
starting on page 6-2.
2. Click on the “Calibration” tab of the Rudder Angle Calibrator applica-
tion to enter the calibration page.
3. As the first part of the initial calibration, the feedback input is to be
calibrated now.
In case the steering gear cannot be operated at this point in time, use
the potentiometer supply and center tap potentials as dummy input
signals (see “Input Calibration using Dummy Values” on page 6-24).
4. Put the rudder to the hardover port position.
5. Read the exact rudder angle from the rudder stock scale and enter it
in the input calibration rudder angle control.
You may edit the displayed angle directly or use the dial and spin
controls to set it to the required value:
Port angles must be entered as negative numbers, i. e. prefixed with
a minus sign.
6. Click to set a new calibration point. The rudder angle
and the corresponding internal A/D conversion value are now saved
to runtime memory.
The calibration point index is incremented automatically. Upon sav-
ing a calibration point, all points are re-indexed. The point for the
largest port angle is assigned index “1”, while the point for the larg-
est starboard angle is assigned the index matching the total number
of existing points.
7. Put the rudder to the midships position.
