Initial system configuration
6-5
17. Determine the calibration accuracy attained through the initial cali-
bration. For this purpose, compare the actual angle at the rudder
stock with the angles displayed at the RAIs.
In conformance with the requirements of ISO 20673, the angles
should be recorded every 5° for a ±45° steering gear and every 10°
for a ±70° steering gear.
18. Should the difference between the angles at the rudder stock and the
values shown at the RAIs exceed 1.5% of the full scale angle (perfor-
mance requirement according to ISO 20673), determine the angles
where the largest errors occur.
Then, set additional input and/or output calibration points for these
angles and determine the calibration accuracy again.
If necessary, repeat this step until the required calibration accuracy
is attained.
19. The RAC configuration as such is now complete and the unit is ready
to be taken into operation.
20. To finish off the configuration, click
in the SUSI applica-
tion to read all configuration and calibration settings from the RAC
back into SUSI’s runtime memory.
A dialog box will pop up, asking whether these parameters should
be saved as default settings for this device:
21. Click
to save the parameters. The file containing the config-
uration parameters is named “RACdefault.xml“ and is located in the
sub-directory “Parameter Files” in SUSI’s installation directory.
To be able to retrieve and restore the configuration at a later point in
time, this file should be copied and saved to an appropriate location.
22. Fill out the RAC setup table to retain an easily retrievable written
record of the RAC configuration.
23. Unplug the USB cable from the RAC and the service PC.
24. Power down the RAC and put the cover back on the housing.
25. If the RAC is to be taken into operation now, power up the unit again.
Re-check for proper operation.
Note
Saving the Rudder Angle Calibrator settings will overwrite a previously
saved settings file in SUSI’s “Parameter Files” sub-directory without fur-
ther warning.
To be able to retrieve and restore the configuration at a later point in
time, rename the file “RACdefault.xml“ and/or copy it from the “Param-
eter Files” sub-directory to a different location.
