Fuel Filter
The fuel filter assembly has a built-in water separator that
should be drained when the indicator light in the dashboard
display turns on or once per season. Replace the fuel
filter element every 800 hours of operation or as required.
To drain the fuel filter:
1. Turn the engine off, set the parking brake, remove
the ignition key, and wait for all moving parts to stop.
2. Allow the engine and surrounding areas to cool to
room temperature.
3. Place a container under the fuel filter tube and turn
the base of the filter assembly (A, Figure 21) approxi-
mately 1 turn.
4. Allow the filter to drain until all water and debris have
drained out.
5. Turn the base of the filter back to close the fuel filter
valve when finished draining.
6. Prime fuel system if filter is emptied or if unit has been
run out of fuel (refer to “Prime Fuel System” section
that follows).
WARNING
Diesel fuel is highly flammable and must be
handled with care. Never fill the tank when the
engine is still hot from recent operation. Do not
allow open flame, smoking, or matches in the
area. Avoid over-filling and wipe up any spills.
Do not drain or replace fuel filter when engine is
hot, as spilled fuel may ignite. Make sure the filter
valve is fully closed before returning the unit to
service.
Do not use kerosene in place of diesel
fuel. Kerosene will damage the engine.
Consult the engine manufacturer’s
manual for specific fuel recommendations.

Prime Fuel System
Before running the unit for the first time (or if it has run
out of fuel), the fuel system must be primed.
To prime the fuel system:
1. Fill the fuel tank with fresh fuel.
2. Press the primer (A, Figure 22) down repeatedly, until
fluid can be felt passing though the filter. Once the
primer has filled with fuel, depress it ten more times.
3. Start the engine. If the engine sputters or smokes
heavily, depress the primer several times while run-
ning the engine.
