Brake Linkage Service

The brake linkage is also part of the drive controls. The
brake linkage is connected to the cruise control lever.
When the brake is depressed during tractor operation,
the brake control linkage will disengage the cruise con-
trol lever.
Service to the brake control linkage also requires service
to the other drive control linkages, which is covered in
Section 9, Drive Control Service, in this manual. This
section will only cover the brake pedal assembly (B,
Figure 6), brake control rod (G), and emergency brake
lever (C). Refer to Section 9, DRIVE CONTROL
SERVICE, for additional brake control linkage.
For adjustment of the brake linkage and brake pedal
switch, refer to Section 4, ADJUSTMENTS.

NOTE: Most brake system components can be accessed
from under the unit or by removing the rear bumper.
Depending on your tractor configuration and available lift
equipment, you may wish to remove one or more of the
following items to access brake components: dash
assembly, foot rest assembly, or seat deck assembly.
Refer to the appropriate section for component removal
and installation.

To work on the brake control linkage, the following com-
mon procedures will need to be followed:

1. Park the tractor on a level surface.
2. Place blocks in front and behind the front wheels.
3. Turn the ignition key switch to the OFF position,

remove the key, set the parking brake, and turn the
PTO switch off.

4. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable

(see Section 7, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SERVICE).

5. Disconnect spark plug wires (gas engines only) to

prevent the possibility of accidental starting while the
brake system is being adjusted.

6. If desired, remove the seat and seat deck (see

Section 15, SEAT DECK AND FUEL TANK SER-
VICE).

7. If desired, remove the steering tilt assembly (see

Section 8, POWER STEERING SERVICE).

8. If desired, remove the dash (see Section 14, HOOD,

DASH, & FOOT REST SERVICE).

9. If desired, remove the tunnel (foot rest) (see Section

14, HOOD, DASH, & FOOT REST SERVICE).
