Note: Keep the motor valve plate (C) separate from the
pump valve plate (D) as they are not interchangeable
(refer to Figure 19).
If the valve plates (C and D) remain on the cylinder
block, remove them at this time. Remove gasket (E),
valve plate pins (F), and locating pins (G).
Lift out both the pump (upper) cylinder block assembly
(A, Figure 20) and the motor (lower) cylinder block
assembly (B). This is the same for both pump and motor
section. The pistons (C) may come out of cylinder block
bores. There is no special orientation of piston to bore
that needs to be maintained.
Important: Note: Some components are under spring
tension, therefore do not attempt to disassemble the
spring and other parts from the center bore of the cylin-
der block. The entire cylinder block assembly should be
replaced if any of its components are damaged. Parts
are not interchangeable between cylinder block assem-
blies.
Visually inspect wear surfaces of valve plate, cylinder
block, and slippers for damage. Check to be sure pistons
are free in bores.
Remove pump thrust plate from counterbore in housing.
Visually inspect both sides for damage and flatness.
The pump shaft (A, Figure 21) can be removed by press-
ing it out through the open end of the housing (B). After
the pump shaft has been removed, the pump shaft bear-
ing may keep the swashplate from full (15°) movement.
Tap the bearing back into the housing if this should hap-
pen.
The motor shaft (C) can also be removed by pressing it
out through the open end of the housing or pressing it
out toward the spline end, removing the shaft and bear-
ing together. The motor shaft bearing (D) can now be
removed by pressing it out the other end of the housing.
Visually inspect two needle bearings (A, Figure 22) in
end section (B). If necessary, remove and replace nee-
dle bearings by pulling them out of end section.
When replacing needle bearings, press into end section
leaving 1/16" to 1/8" of bearing protruding beyond coun-
terbore. The valve plates pilot on these bearings.Support
housing with open end up (A, Figure 23). Use care not to
damage housing. Place 3/16" diameter punch in the con-
trol shaft (B) and tilt movable (pump) swashplate (C) to
full angle of 15° (full forward), and hold in this position
