Setting PC Microphone Input for Recording
Use the following procedure:
1. Open the application that controls the audio input.
2. Select Microphone or Line In as the input.
3. Adjust balance and volume as necessary.
4. Make sure that AGC is disabled (may be called "Mic Boost"). Changing the input gain during recording makes
the recorded signal difficult to analyze.
Making the Recording
Use the following procedure:
1. Open an application that records an audio input signal and saves it to a file. The preferred format is PCM
(*.wav); MP3 (*.mp3) is also acceptable.
2. To reduce the size of the resulting file, set the sample rate to 8000 Hz, resolution to 16 bits, single channel
(mono). If further compression is desired, companding (A-law / µ-law) can be done, but higher forms of
compression are not recommended, since they are optimized for the human voice, not modem data.
