18 SBus Adapter Card Configuration

3.1.1 Configuration Notes

Configuring the

J1

jumper block consists of placing a jumper across the

appropriate pin pair to disable a function. Leaving a pin pair open selects
a function.

Refer to section 3.4 for SBus adapter card factory settings, then determine
which jumpers need to be changed for your configuration.

The factory configuration for SBus adapter card jumpers is with all
functions enabled.

The SBus uses geographical addressing, therefore, a small number of
configuration jumpers are required.

The only jumpers used on the SBus adapter card are those that determine
how the card is powered up or to select a function so that the function
cannot be overridden by software.

After installation, make sure the LED on the SBus adapter card is lit.
This LED must be on for the adapter card to operate.

3.2 SBus Addressing

The SBus uses geographical addressing to address cards residing on its
backplane. The bus has 28 address lines and one device select line for each
slot. Part of the physical address is presented to each SBus slave device as an
individual slot select signal.

A virtual address is used by a SBus master to access a slave device. The
virtual address is translated to a physical address by address mapping. Each
SBus slot has a unique address range that appears to its installed card as if it
starts from address zero. The physical address must be mapped to the virtual
address before a VMEbus device can be accessed.

In the Sun4c SPARCstation implementation, SBus address lines 25 - 27 are
not used. For compatibility, the Model 466-1 does not decode these address
lines. The SBus adapter card passes address lines 24 - 31 to the VMEbus
adapter card as "0".
