Chapter 8: Common Procedures And Programming
Sequences

8.0 Introduction

Chapter 8 includes information about common procedures and programming
sequences.

Before proceeding, please become familiar with the contents of Chapters 6
and 7.

8.1 Adapter Initialization And Testing

Read the Local Status Register and ignore the data. This awakens the
adapter.

Read the Remote Status Register and ignore the data. This clears any
incomplete transactions in the cable buffers.

Write

0x80

to the Local Command Register. This resets any false status

bits that may have been set during the power on transition.

Read the Local Status Register. The contents of the Local Status Register
are now valid and no error bits should be set.

After the initialization and testing sequence is complete, about 50% of the
adapter has been used. The remaining 50% involves Direct and Page
Mode accesses to remote VMEbus RAM, Dual Port RAM, and interrupts.
