VMEbus Adapter Card Configuration 39

In Direct Mode, the

Bias

jumpers allow the following choices for the remaining

high-order address lines:

Set the VMEbus address bit to a "0".

Set the VMEbus address bit to a "1".

Extend VMEbus address range by passing more address bits from the SBus
to the VMEbus.

The VMEbus adapter cards are set at the factory to pass through all address bits.
To re-position the address in VMEbus memory, the jumpers must be changed.

The remote bus address generation process is shown below.

The

Bias

jumpers adjust addresses coming from across the cable -- not

addresses local to the adapter card. Also, the

Bias

jumpers are ignored

when Page Mode is selected. (In Page Mode, the upper 12 - 16 VMEbus
address bits are supplied by a Page Register on the VMEbus adapter card.
See section 1.9.)

Passing through address line A16 to VMEbus address line A16 allows the
adapter to address a 128K byte VMEbus block. Passing through address A17,
A18, A19, A20, A21, A22, and A23 to VMEbus address lines A17, A18, A19,
A20, A21, A22, and A23 extends the range to 256K, 512K, 1M, 2M, 4M, 8M,
and 16M bytes, respectively. Address lines A24 - A31 passed from the SBus
adapter card are always zero.

After the range is established, the remaining higher VMEbus address bits must
be jumpered to ground or left open to establish the VMEbus starting address. A
bit left unjumpered appears as a "1" on the target VMEbus address lines. A bit
jumpered to a ground pin appears as a "0" on the target VMEbus address lines.
