Appendix A: Glossary
The following terms are used throughout this manual:
"0":
Zero.
"1":
One.
Adapter Node Input/Output:
Any access to the I/O registers contained on
either the local or remote adapter card. These are referred to as local node I/O
and remote node I/O, respectively.
Address Lines:
SBus signals that are used by the SBus controller to send a
physical address to a slave.
Asserted:
The state of a signal used to initiate an action.
Atomic Transaction:
A sequence of bus cycles in which a bus master retains
control of the bus, thereby preventing any other bus master from accessing the
bus.
BG
: Bus Grant. See Grant Line.
Bit:
A single digit in a binary number (0 or 1).
BR:
Bus Request. See Request.
Byte:
8 bits.
Byte Lane:
The route by which byte data are transferred.
Controller:
The hardware responsible for performing arbitration, address
translation and decoding, driving slave selects and address strobe, and
timeouts.
CSR:
Adapter Control and Status Registers.
