Acronym

Description

A term used to describe double high VME, VME64 , and VME64x boards that are 233.35 mm in height. Also used to

describe backplanes that interface to these same boards.

ANSI

American National Standards Institute, Inc.

ASYNC

Asynchronous communication is transmission of data without the use of an external clock signal.

Bridge

The logic that connects one computer bus to another, allowing an agent on one bus to access an agent on the other.

BSP

Software Board Support Package, such as Linux or VxWorks.

ECC

Error Correction Codes is a method used to detect and correct errors introduced during storage or transmission of data.

EEPROM

Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory.

Ethernet

Ethernet is a family of frame-based computer networking technologies for local area networks (LANs).

Flash

Flash memory is a non-volatile computer storage chip that can be electrically erased and reprogrammed.

GbE

Gigabit Ethernet.

GPIO

General Purpose Input / Output.

IEEE

PCI-X

Peripheral Component Interconnect Extended is a performance-enhanced version of the PCI bus.

PMC

A PCI Mezzanine Card is a printed circuit board manufactured to the IEEE P1386.1 standard. This standard combines the electrical

characteristics of the PCI bus with the mechanical dimensions of the Common Mezzanine Card or CMC format (IEEE 1386 stan-

dard).

RS-232

RS-232 (Recommended Standard 232) is a standard for serial binary single-ended data and control signals connecting between a

DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) and a DCE (Data Circuit-terminating Equipment).

RS-422

RS-422 (Recommended Standard 422) provides for data transmission using balanced or differential signaling with unidirectional/

non-reversible, terminated, or non-terminated transmission lines, point to point, or multi-drop.

SBC

Single Board Computer.

VITA

VPX

XMC

XMC is a PMC with high-speed serial fabric interconnect defined by the VITA 42 standard. XMC specifies an additional connector

(P5) that support PCI Express(VITA 42.3) or other high speed serial formats such as Serial RapidIO (VITA 42.2) and Parallel Rapi-

dIO (VITA 42.1).
