MANUAL TEST FUNCTIONS

PCAP files have the same format as files collected by other known network analyzers such as
Wireshark or Cain & Abel. This also means that the TALAN can analyze PCAP files captured by
other network analyzers, place them on the root folder of a USB memory stick, install it into the
TALAN, and then select
Load File
, Select the file to run, then select
Run File
. The same functions
that can be used in real time can also be used when running a loaded file. The file will run until
all packets are processed, or select
Stop File
to stop at any time. The TALAN can save packets
that are being received to a file. First, Start Receiving, then select the Capture button to start
capturing packets. Then when ready to stop and save the captured files, select Stop Capturing,
then Save To File. If a USB memory stick is installed, it will be saved to the USB and the file
name will be shown. If the USB memory stick is not installed, the file will be saved to the
Compact Flash with the shown name.
There are two options for running a file. When you have a file loaded, ready to run, the options
QuickScan
and
Loop
appear, the default is
QuickScan
enabled and
Loop
disabled.
QuickScan
permits the TALAN to process through the packets as fast as possible. This is very
helpful when data has been collected for a long period of time and it is desireable to get
through non-VoIP traffic as fast as possible without wasting time in order to get to the real
VoIP traffic. Disabling QuickScan will run the file analysis at the rate at which packets were
received.
Loop
will continue to run through this file over and over again. Good for demonstrations.
