22. Using PLEXTALK as an external drive
You can connect PLEXTALK to a personal computer, using the USB (Universal Serial
Bus) 2.0 interface, to use it as an external card drive. This chapter describes how to
connect and disconnect PLEXTALK to computers that have a range of operating systems.
Note: To use PLEXTALK as an external memory card drive, your personal computer's
operating system must be Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8.
22.1. What can PLEXTALK be used for when connected to a personal
computer?
With PLEXTALK connected to a computer as a card drive, you can perform standard file
management functions such as:
•
Transfer DAISY titles, Audio Files and Text Files between the PLEXTALK and the
computer.
•
Create, delete and rename folders and files on the SD card of the PLEXTALK.
•
Transfer audio files from a computer to an SD card, and listen to them using the
computer, in other words, use PLEXTALK as a file store for music files.
22.2. Connecting PLEXTALK to a computer
To connect PLEXTALK to a computer, use the following procedure:
•
Turn on your computer system.
•
Connect the AC adaptor to the PLEXTALK and turn it on.
•
Connect the USB cable (long) from PLEXTALK to the computer directly.
•
The computer recognizes PLEXTALK as an external memory card drive
automatically.
CAUTION: When PLEXTALK is connected to a computer as an external memory card
drive, you should always avoid switching off PLEXTALK, unplugging the USB cable or
removing the SD card. These operations may result in damage to or loss of data.
CAUTION: Whenever you erase an SD card using a personal computer, make sure you
select "FAT 16" or "FAT 32".
Note: As soon as PLEXTALK recognizes the connection to the computer, it becomes an
external memory card drive for the computer and loses all its player and recorder
functionality.
