9.21 Interfacing with Electrical
Cardiometry™ Monitors
(Option)
As an option, PACE 203H interfaces with
the Electrical Cardiometry™ (EC™)
monitors (AESCULON™, ICON™)
offered by Cardiotronic (La Jolla, CA,
USA) and Osypka Medical (Berlin,
Germany). These monitors can synchro-
nize with PACE 203H and record the
pacemaker settings with the corres-
ponding results of the hemodynamic
measurements.
The PACE 203H interface to EC™
monitors is enabled by selecting the
radio button assigned to PMC in the
Options Menu 2 (Table 57).
Pressing the PMC/BPI softkey in the
Options Menu 2 (Table 57) will toggle
between the radio button assigned to
PMC (for
Pacemaker Clinic
™, an EC™
monitor feature) and the radio button
assigned to BPI (for
Balloon Pump
Interface
; not available in the U.S.).

The communication between PACE
203H and the EC™ monitor is estab-
lished via a custom interface cable con-
nected at one end to the
CTRL.OUT
terminal of PACE 203H and at the other
end to the EC™ monitor. Upon success-
ful communication, PACE 203H para-
meter settings are transmitted to the
EC™ monitor, and both PACE 203H and
the EC™ monitor are synchronized
regarding timely occurrences of atrial
and ventricular stimulation.
The combination of the pacemaker and
the EC™ monitor provides a helpful tool
for determining the hemodynamically
optimal pacing parameters. The user
utilizes the EC™ monitor feature
Pace-
maker Clinic™ (PMC)
to define a range
for the atrio-ventricular (AV) delay, a
step width for stepping through the
aforementioned range and a waiting
period applied between a change of the
AV delay and a period of hemodynamic
measurements. Upon a key stroke,
PACE 203H automatically applies the
various pacing parameter permutations
for a limited time one after the other,
while obtaining and recording the corres-
ponding hemodynamic measurements.
At the end of this ‘scan’, the EC™ moni-
tor presents the results in a matrix and
suggests the optimal pacing parameter
permutation, which can be accepted by
the user, or ignored. Please refer to the
instructions for use of the AESCULON™
or ICON™ monitor for more detailed
information.
