9.16 Connecting the Leads to
PACE 203H
9.16.1 Lead Types
For temporary stimulation of the heart
with PACE 203H, temporary transven-
ous leads or permanent leads, regard-
less of whether they are of bipolar or
unipolar configuration, can be used. The
use of myocardial leads (up to 6 electro-
des) and VDD single pass leads is also
permissible.
Temporary, transvenous pacing
leads
: These leads are advanced into
the heart via a vein and are connected to
PACE 203H either directly or by means
of an extension cable.
Heart wires (myocardial pacing leads)
Heart wires (myocardial leads) are
affixed to the heart during open heart
surgery, when it is expected that the
patient may need stimulation for a limited
period of time after surgery. The heart
wires are connected to PACE 203H by
means of an extension cable.
Permanent pacing leads
: Prior to
implantation of a permanent pacemaker,
or during a pacemaker change, stimu-
lation may be properly maintained with
the assistance of PACE 203H. The per-
manent lead is connected to PACE 203H
either directly or by means of an
extension cable.
Warning:
All lead systems must be
connected to type
CF
devices only, be-
cause of the danger of current being
diverted to the heart. Devices that are
connected to a mains supply pose in-
creased danger for current diversions to
the heart.
For exact specifications of leads and
patient cables, please refer to our
product catalog.
9.16.1.1 Lead Connection Terminals
At the top of the pacemaker are
protected terminals (collets) located for
plugs with a diameter of 0.9 mm to 2.0
mm. Viewing the display face of PACE
203H, the atrial connections are located
to the left and the ventricular
connections to the right (see Figure 1).
Viewing the top of PACE 203H, as
shown in Figure 10, the ventricular
connections are located to the left and
the atrial connections to the right.
The indifferent terminals (+) are colored
red, while the different terminals (–) are
colored black.

9.16.2 Connection Configurations
Various connection configurations exist,
depending on the leads used. One may
choose between bipolar leads or uni-
polar leads with indifferent electrode.
Bipolar
: When using a bipolar, trans-
venous stimulation lead, the distal pole
of the lead is connected to the different
