Set the cross-feed / longitudinal feed (feed rod) (10) movement control handle on the apron
to the up position. The engaging lever for thread-cutting (lead screw, apron nut open) must
be set to the neutral position.

If the described positions have been set, the lathe saddle moves towards the lathe chuck.
In order for the lathe saddle to move toward the tailstock, the feed direction control handle (3)
on headstock has to be in the right-side feed position.
4.17.2 Face turning
Proceed as in straight turning. However, set the feed movement control handle cross feed / lon-
gitudinal feed (feed rod) (10) to the position for cross feed. The engaging lever for thread-cut-
ting (9) (lead screw, apron nut open) must be set to the neutral position.
4.18 Turning tapers
4.18.1 Cross-adjustment of the tailstock
The cross-adjustment of the tailstock is used for turning long, thin bodies.

Unlock the tailstock by moving the clamping handle (K) backwards.

Loosen the threaded pin (F).

Loosen threaded pin (G2) and tighten threaded pin (G1) if you wish to move the tailstock
towards the operator's side.

Loosen threaded pin (G1) and tighten threaded pin (G2) if you wish to offset the tailstock in
the opposite direction.

Tighten the threaded pin (F) again in order to fix the cross-adjustment of the tailstock.

Clamp the tailstock by moving the clamping handle forwards (L).
INFORMATION
Example:

A 300mm long shaft is to be taper-turned between the centres with an angle of 1°.

