3-2 Controlling Buzzers, Backlights, and Display
This section describes how to control the status of NS-series PTs, including buzzers, backlights, and
screen display.
3-2-1 Sounding Buzzers
NS-series PTs have the following 3 types of buzzers.
Continuous: Continuous buzzer
Short intermittent: Intermittent buzzer that sounds at 0.5-second intervals.
Long intermittent: Intermittent buzzer that sounds at 1-second intervals.
Buzzers can be sounded using the following method.
Sounding Buzzers Using System Memory
System memory word $SB provides bits for sounding buzzers.
Set buzzer sound to ON under the CX-Designer system settings and select the Basics check box in the
system memory list.
The system memory is manipulated as shown below when the need arises for a buzzer to sound.
The bits listed on the following table will turn ON depending on the type of buzzer to be sounded.
Continuous buzzer: $SB12
Short intermittent buzzer: $SB13
Long intermittent buzzer: $SB14
3-2-2 Stopping Buzzers
Buzzers can be stopped using the following methods.
Using system memory.
Pressing a Command Button to which Stop buzzer has been set.
Stopping Buzzers Using System Memory
Turns OFF all bits in system memory $SB used to sound buzzers, i.e., turns OFF $SB12 to $SB14.

If multiple bits listed above turn ON at the same time, only one buzzer will sound, depending on the
order of priority. The order of buzzer priority is continuous buzzer, short intermittent buzzer, then
long intermittent buzzer. When buzzers are turned OFF, not only the bit that corresponds to the
buzzer but all of the bits listed above are turned OFF.
Stopping Buzzers Using Command Buttons
If Command Buttons are used, the buzzer can be stopped immediately from the PT. Press a Command
Button to which
Stop buzzer has been set under the button property settings.
