Figure W-3:
Example Zone Plate and associated right-hand panel.
The form the zone plate takes is set in the right-hand panel of the Generator window. This shows
that the definition for the zone plate can be either selected as a Preset or set manually as a
combination of
x
,
y
,
t
parameters which together define the pattern. (
x
and
y
are the usual horizontal
& vertical parameters, while the
t
components define how the pattern is to vary in time.)
Setting up a suitable zone plate pattern manually is difficult: using one of the Presets is very much
easier. Another option is to start by picking one of the Presets, then adjust the associated
parameters until you achieve the required pattern. The steps for doing this are as follows:
To set the pattern for a zone plate:
1.
Check that the zone plate is selected in the Generator window. If
necessary, click on the zone plate’s thumbnail to select it.
Which pattern is currently selected can be seen both by spotting
which thumbnail is highlighted and from the
File
entry in the
right-hand panel.
2.
Display the drop-down menu associated with the
Presets
entry in
the right-hand panel to show the list of provided zone plate
patterns (see Figure W-4) and select the pattern you require.
The thumbnail for the pattern will automatically change to show
the pattern that has been selected.
3.
Make any adjustments to the coefficients that are needed.
4.
You are advised to also set a unique ‘
File
’ name for the pattern.
Note:
The pattern you create is automatically saved on the
Ultra
’s
Flash disk but will be removed if you either delete it or carry out a
Factory Reset. The steps to use to save it more permanently (and to
make it available to copy to other systems) are described in Section
W.4.
Note:
Omnitek has produced a White Paper on Zone-Plate Generation. This
paper is available in the 'Support' section of the Omnitek website.
