Sterilization
Ethylene oxide gas sterilization
As an alternative to high-level disinfection, the endoscope can be sterilized by
ethylene oxide gas. After performing manual cleaning and drying as described in
Section 7.3, “Precleaning” and Section 7.5, “Manual cleaning”, follow the
procedures given below.
•
Exceeding the recommended parameters may cause
equipment damage.
•
If ethylene oxide gas sterilization is performed while the
water-resistant caps are attached, the covering of the
bending section can be damaged.
•
The water-resistant caps cannot be ethylene oxide gas
sterilized and may be damaged if it is subjected to ethylene
oxide gas sterilization. If the water-resistant caps is
connected to the endoscope be sure to remove the
water-resistant caps from the endoscope before proceeding
to ethylene oxide gas sterilization.
1.
Dry the endoscope before ethylene oxide gas sterilization.
2.
Remove the water-resistant caps before ethylene oxide gas sterilization
3.
Seal the instrument in a package appropriate for ethylene oxide gas
sterilization according to your hospital’s protocol.
4.
Sterilize the package according to the recommended ethylene oxide gas
exposure parameters as described in Section 6.6, “Ethylene oxide gas
sterilization” and the sterilizer manufacturer’s instructions.
5.
Aerate the components following the minimum aeration parameters
specified in Section 6.6, “Ethylene oxide gas sterilization”.
6.
Store the components following the instructions given in Chapter 9, “Storage
