Troubleshooting
Large up-and-down spike during the test
When the traceline goes way down and then way up, this would indicate that the test subject
swallowed during the test.
1. Instruct the test subject to remain calm and not to swallow or move during the test
measurement.
2. Remove distractions from the area that may be interfering with the test (e.g. other test
subjects making the test subject to be nervous or to laugh during a test).
Failing Fit Factors
Low Fit Factors
When fit factors are consistently low, the respirator may be a poor fit for that person. If the
graph looks normal and the fit factor is low, that means that the QuantiFit2 is successful in
meeting the challenge pressure, but a large volume of air is required to be removed to achieve
that targeted pressure, which means the leak is too large.
When the leak rate is large, the graph can still look somewhat normal. The QuantiFit2 will often
be able to keep up with the leak and give a good test result, regardless of the fact that the leak
is too large to yield a passing fit factor.
1. As in other leakage situations (see HIGH LEAKAGE), check all tube connections, adapters,
and adapter connections to respirators.
2. Check for proper tension of respirator to face.
3. Be sure that the mask is centered on the head, and that that straps are pulled equally on
both sides.
4. Try a different size or different respirator.
5. Have adapter checked for leaks (call OHD for this service).
Fit Factor of 0
When the fit factor equals 0, this indicates that the QuantiFit2 was not able to sustain the
challenge pressure long enough, or that the traceline movement was so great that the
QuantiFit2 did not receive accurate data to calculate a leak rate or fit factor.
1. Movement by the person being tested needs to be minimized. Actions such as swallowing,
opening the mouth, and moving the tongue can adversely affect the pressure sensor.
