This appendix describes the settings and defaults specified
in the Advanced Power Management (APM) program. The
appendix also describes the NEC Communications Assis-
tant provided with the Versa S.
APM
Advanced Power Management settings are already specified
in your system. When you enable power management
through the SCU, the system retrieves the settings specified
in APM and initiates them after the defined timeouts. If you
change these settings, either through DOS or Windows, the
new settings are initiated. (See your Microsoft Windows
and MS-DOS user documentation for details.)
APM has the following features and settings.
Features
APM conserves power consumed by the entire system. It
accomplishes this through the following features.
■
Hardware power management offers features that slow
or stop devices after specified timeouts, including:
clock stretching
quiet bus
modular clocking
initiating device standby modes.
