Getting Started 1-17
NOTE
Although the battery is fully charged at the
factory, transit and shelf time may reduce the initial
battery charge. The first time you use your system,
we recommend that you connect it to AC power
using the AC adapter. This will also recharge your
battery.
Your NEC Versa 5000 Series system provides two tools to
help you keep track of the main battery's power level:
Battery Status LED (located on the right hinge beneath
the LCD), described earlier in this chapter.
Battery Meter, which lets you quickly identify how much
battery power you have available.
The system also emits a beep to warn you that your battery
power is getting low. When you hear the beep, save your
files and put your system into Suspend mode. Connect your
system to AC power, if available, or insert a charged bat-
tery pack.
Installing the Battery Pack
Install the battery pack in your system as follows.
!
CAUTION
Be sure to save your data before replacing the bat-
tery pack. Failure to do so can result in data loss.
1.
If your system is on, save your data, close any applica-
tions that are running, and power off. Remove any ca-
bles or external devices attached to your system.
