Using Your Computer 1-53
Data Fax/Modem (fax/modem models)
The high-speed 14, 400 bps data fax/modem board in
fax/modem models combines convenient and reliable data
and fax capabilities. The fax/modem allows access to the
NEC Bulletin Board Service, NEC FastFacts automated
electronic information service, and NEC Fax Technical
Support service.
The data fax/modem supports the International Consultative
Committee for Telegraphy and Telephony (CCITT) V.32bis
standard and accepts the industry-standard (ATtention)
Hayes® command set and command mode. The fax/modem
features CCITT V.42 error correction and V.42bis and
MNP 5 data compression for high-speed error-free com-
munications.
The 14,400 bps fax/modem also supports the latest high-
speed V.17 fax protocol for fax speeds up to 14,400 bps
when talking with other V.17 fax boards and fax machines,
and 9600 bps for most fax machines.
Plug and Play Support
Your computer comes with a Plug and Play BIOS which
supports Plug and Play technology. Plug and Play
eliminates complicated setup procedures for installing
Plug and Play expansion boards.
With Plug and Play technology, you add a Plug and Play
expansion board simply by powering off the system, install-
ing the board, and powering on the system. There are no
jumpers to set and no system resource conflicts to resolve.
Plug and Play automatically configures the board for your
system.
Your system also supports non-Plug and Play boards.
For information about installing expansion boards, see
“Boards” in Chapter 5.
