High-Speed Communication Ports
The PowerMate V486 Series features an enhanced parallel
port and two buffered high-speed serial ports.
The enhanced parallel port supports Enhanced Capabilities
Port and Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP) modes for devices
that require ECP or EPP protocols. These protocols allow
high-speed bidirectional transfer over a parallel port and
increase parallel port functionality by supporting more
devices.
The two buffered high-speed serial ports use a fast 16550
UART which supports transfer rates up to 19.2 kilobytes
(KB) per second. These ports allow the installation of high-
speed serial devices for faster data transfer rates.
The combination of the enhanced parallel port and buffered
serial ports ensure optimum performance for future periph-
eral devices and operating systems.
ZIF Socket
Your computer comes with the latest 237-pin ZIF socket
for upgradeability all the way to the next generation of
OverDrive™ processors.
Audio Support (multimedia models)
The 16-bit sound board in your system, a Creative Labs
Sound Blaster
board, provides stereo CD-quality sound.
The system’s sound board, stereo speakers, and microphone
offer exceptional sound capabilities for multimedia applica-
tions, games, or audio CDs.
The sound board supports a Wave Blaster™ option. Wave
Blaster is a MIDI synthesizer with capabilities for produc-
ing extremely high fidelity stereo music for computer audio
systems.
