The Liberty Series™ system is available in two widths: 36" and 48". The 36" wide standard ramping
has a weight capacity of 1,000 lbs, and the 48" wide bariatric ramping has a weight capacity of 1,200
lbs.
In addition to when the weight limit of the 36" wide ramping may be reached, a bariatric ramp may
also be required when the mobility device is particularly wide, including bariatric manual chairs
and all-terrain scooters. Wherever the width of the mobility device from its furthest points is 32" or
greater, a bariatric ramp is advised.
Additionally, some may choose a bariatric ramp when a long-term care option includes a large
powerchair, so that the ramping does not need to be switched out after installation.
The installation process for both widths is the same, but the Bottom Transition Plate (BTP) and end
loops for the bariatric ramp are both 2 feet long. When evaluating for a bariatric ramp, be advised
that 180° switchback platforms must be 5'x10', as all components will not fit on a 5'x8' switchback
platform. Also, National Ramp advises that you use a 5'x6' platform for 90° turns on bariatric ramps,
as some users find that turning on the 5'x5' platform is too tight for the turn radius of their mobility
device.
The weight capacity includes the ramp user, their mobility device and any added equipment,
as well as a caregiver and any others simultaneously on the ramp.
