Alternatively: Filling with cool-
ant through filler neck
1. Open vent points on EGR cooler (1) and dis-
tributor (2, 3).
2. Fill engine coolant in expansion tank via filler
neck until coolant level at top edge of filler
neck remains constant.
Result: When coolant emerges from the vent points,
close vent points one by one, proceeding
from the lowest point upwards.
3. Check proper condition of cap and clean
sealing faces if required.
4. Place cover onto filler neck and close until
first stop is reached.
5. Start engine (→ Page 40) and shut down after
10 second of operation without load
(→ Page 41).
6. Turn cap counterclockwise and remove.
7. Check engine coolant level (→ Page 131) and
top up coolant if necessary:
a) Repeat the steps from "Start engine"
(→ Step 5) until no more engine coolant
needs to be topped up.
b) Check proper condition of cap and clean
sealing faces if required.
c) Put on filler neck cap and close it.
Final steps
1. Start the engine and run it without load for some minutes.
2. Check engine coolant level (→ Page 131) and top up coolant if necessary.
