PCI Riser Card
This system can accommodate either one PCI-X 133 MHz (full length) card or (with the optional
CSE-RR1U-ELi riser card) one PCI-Express x8 card. The PCI slot shields protect the system
board and its components from EMI and aid in proper ventilation, so make sure there is always a
shield covering each unused slot.
To install an add-on card:
1. Push down the PCI riser slot shield retention lever and remove the PCI slot shield.
2. Fully seat the card into the PCI riser card slot, pushing down with your thumbs evenly on
both sides of the card.
3. Finish by securing the PCI riser slot shield retention lever.
System Fans
Three 4-cm fans provide the cooling for the NF1420. Each fan unit is actually made up of two
fans joined back-to-back, which rotate in opposite directions. This counter-rotating action
generates exceptional airflow and works to dampen vibration levels. These fans can adjust their
speed according to the heat level sensed in the system, which results in more efficient and
quieter fan operation. Fan speed is controlled by a setting in BIOS. Each fan in a set has its own
separate tachometer. An air shroud is also included with the system to optimize airflow.
Note: It is
very important that the chassis top cover is properly installed for the airflow to circulate properly
through the chassis and cool the components.
System Fan Failure
If a fan fails, the remaining fans will ramp up to full speed and the overheat/fan fail LED on the
control panel will blink on and off. Replace any failed fan at your earliest convenience with the
same type and model (the system can continue to run with a failed fan). Remove the top chassis
cover while the system is still running to determine which fan unit has failed, then power down the
system to replace it. Removing the power cord(s) is also recommended as a safety precaution.
Replacing System Cooling Fan
Removing a Fan
The following information describes how to remove the blower fan.
1. Turn off the power to the system.
2. Remove the chassis cover and unplug the fan cable from the system board.
3. Grasp the failed fan unit and lift it out of the chassis.
Installing a New Fan
Replace the failed fan with an identical 4-cm, 12 volt fan.
1. At the bottom of each fan unit there are four small rubber pieces that help position the fan
into place in the chassis. Remove these from the failed fan and attach them to the new
fan (new fans do not include this piece).
2. Then place the new fan in the housing with the fan wiring toward the system board.
3. Reconnect the fan wiring to the same fan header you removed it from.
