! When DISTRONIC PLUS is activated, the
vehicle brakes automatically in certain situa-
tions. To avoid damage to the vehicle, deac-
tivate DISTRONIC PLUS in the following or
similar situations:
R
when towing away
R
in a car wash
If you fail to adapt your driving style, DISTRONIC
PLUS can neither reduce the risk of an accident
nor override the laws of physics. DISTRONIC
PLUS cannot take road and weather conditions
or traffic conditions into account. DISTRONIC
PLUS is only an aid. You are responsible for the
distance to the vehicle in front, for vehicle
speed, braking in good time and for staying in
your lane.
Do not use DISTRONIC PLUS:
R
if the vehicle is fully laden
R
in traffic conditions that are unsuitable for
driving at a constant speed, e.g. in heavy traf-
fic, on winding roads or off-road
R
on slippery roads. Braking or accelerating can
cause the drive wheels to lose traction and
the vehicle could then skid.
R
when visibility is poor, e.g. due to fog, heavy
rain or snow
DISTRONIC PLUS may not detect narrow vehi-
cles driving in front, e.g. motorcycles, or vehi-
cles driving on a different line.
In particular, the detection of obstacles can be
impaired in the case of:
R
dirt on the sensors or anything else covering
the sensors
R
it is snowing or raining heavily
R
there is interference from other radar sources
R
the possibility of strong radar reflections, for
example, in multi-storey car parks
If DISTRONIC PLUS no longer detects a vehicle
in front, it may unexpectedly accelerate the
vehicle to the stored speed.
This speed can:
R
be too high for a filter lane or a slip road
R
be so high in the right lane that you pass vehi-
cles driving in the left lane
R
be so high in the left lane that you pass vehi-
cles driving in the right lane
If there is a change of drivers, make sure that
you inform the new driver about the stored
speed.
Following damage to the front end of the vehicle,
have the configuration and operation of the
radar sensor checked at a qualified specialist
workshop. This also applies to collisions at slow
speeds where there is no visible damage to the
front of the vehicle.
If you change wheel size, make sure they corre-
spond to the correct wheel size category
(

page 365). If the category is changed without
recoding the control units in the vehicle, the
functioning of DISTRONIC PLUS may be
impaired or it might detect a malfunction switch
itself off.

The cruise control lever is the lower lever on the
left of the steering column.
You can operate DISTRONIC PLUS and variable
SPEEDTRONIC with the cruise control lever.

To preselect DISTRONIC PLUS: check that
LIM indicator lamp
=
is off.
If it is off, DISTRONIC PLUS is already selec-
ted.
If it is not, press the cruise control lever in the
direction of arrow
