Special Operating Conditions
Winter Driving
Have your car winterized in a
MERCEDES-BENZ service station
before the onset of w inter.
• Engine oil change: If no “ all-
year round" engine oil is used,
fill with recommended w inter oil.
For viscosity and capacity,
refer to “ Fuels, Coolants, Lubri­
cants, etc. and last page".
• Antifreeze in the coolant:
Check antifreeze protection
periodically. For capacity refer to
“ Fuels, Coolants, Lubricants,
e tc.” .
• Additive in the windshield
washer system: Add w ind ­
shield washer solvent to the
w ater in the w indshield washer
system.
• Test battery: Battery capacity
drops with decreasing ambient
temperature. A well charged
battery ensures that the engine
can always be started, even at
low am bient temperatures.
• Tires: For the cold season we
recommend m ounting M + S
radial-ply tires on all wheels.
Permissible top speed fo r M + S
radial-ply tires is 100 miles/h
(160 km/h).
Tire Chains
Tire chains can only be used on the
driving wheels. Use only chains
tested and recommended by us.
Any MERCEDES-BENZ service
station w ill readily advise you.
Retighten newly mounted tire chains
after a few miles of driving. Do not
exceed perm issible maximum speed
of 30 mph (50 km /h). On clear roads,
remove the chains as soon as
practicable. Adhere to the manu­
fa ctu re r’s m ounting instructions.
Traveling Abroad
Abroad, too, there is a widely-
spread MERCEDES-BENZ service
netw ork at your disposal. If you
travel into areas w hich are not listed
in the index of your service station
booklet, you should request perti­
nent inform ation from your dealer.
