3.2.9.2 Surround Outer Edge Depth
For standard and stocked surrounds, see
Minimum Fireplace Size Requirements Chapter 3.2.9
, above. While the minimum width
and height requirements remain unchanged regardless of the surround type chosen, the surround outer edge depth chosen does
affect the minimum required depth. As the surround outer
edge depth increases, the minimum required fireplace depth
decreases.
To precisely determine the required surround outer edge
depth to fully fit this Insert into the fireplace cavity, follow
these procedures:
1. Adjust the floor cover plate position. Slide all the way
forward for a faceplate surround application and slide all
the way rearward for a Basix surround application.
2. Slide Insert inside fireplace cavity as far as possible.
3. Identify the front edge of the floor cover plate.
4. Measure from the front edge of the floor cover plate to
the face of the adjacent wall surface that the surround
outer edge will butt against. This measurement will be
equal to the required outer edge depth of the surround.
You should choose a surround with an outer edge depth
equal to or deeper than the measured distance in step 4, above. If the measured distance is greater than 1-
3/4”, you mu st
consider a “custom surround” with a deeper outer edge depth. Mendota offers stock surrounds with outer edge depths of 5/16”,
½” and 1 - 3/4”. Other outer edge depths are offered as custom surroun ds.
