A. Anti − Torque Fan Forward Duct
Installation
(Ref. Figure 8)
The forward duct installation for the anti-
torque fan includes the inlet lower duct
assembly,
drive shaft cover, fan fairing/cent­
erbody assembly, and wire harness.
Fan Inlet Lower Duct Assembly
- The inlet
lower duct assembly, combines with the inlet
and middle duct assemblies to form the air
passage to the inlet of the anti-torque fan.
The forward and aft duct components are both
fabricated as monolithic laminates. Each
component utilizes multiple plies of graphite/
epoxy. In addition the aft duct, in areas of
secondary attachment of, or to, metallic
components, barrier plies of fiberglass/epoxy
are cocured to applicable surfaces.
Fan Drive Shaft Cover
- The drive shaft cover
covers the underside of the fan drive shaft in
the area beneath the upper deck, and aft to
the lower duct assembly. The cover is fabri­
cated with multiple plies of graphite/epoxy.
Fan Fairing/Centerbody Assembly −
The fan
fairing/centerbody assembly covers the fan
drive shaft and fairs the center hub of the fan
assembly on the air inlet side.
The fan fairing/centerbody assembly consists
of a left and right component. Both compo­
nents are fabricated with multiple plies of
graphite/epoxy.
B. Anti − Torque Fan Aft Duct Assembly and
Installation
(Ref. Figure 8)
The anti-torque fan aft duct assembly directs
the discharge air from the anti-torque fan into
the tailboom. The aft duct assembly includes
the upper duct assembly, lower duct assembly,
diverter plate assembly, fan stator vane
assemblies, fan center body diffuser assem­
blies, and the lower access panel assembly.
Upper Duct Assembly −
The upper duct
assembly is a fixed duct that is a secondary
structural component that attaches to and
supports the anti-torque fan support struc­
ture. The upper duct assembly contains the
mounting provisions for the upper half of the
fan stator vane assembly, center diffuser, and
the anti-torque fan aft diffuser.
The upper duct is a composite component that
is fabricated with multiple plies of graphite/
epoxy. In areas in which attachment of
metallic components will occur, barrier plies of
fiberglass/epoxy are cocured to the faying
surfaces. The secondary attachment angles
and clips are fabricated from aluminum alloy
sheet.
Lower Duct Assembly −
The lower duct
assembly is a non-structural removable
component. The lower duct assembly forms the
lower aft portion of the aft duct assembly. The
lower duct assembly contains the through
panel provisions for the electrical harness that
extends through the tailboom to the empen­
nage. The sides of the lower duct assembly are
retained to the sides of the upper duct assem­
bly by means of bolts and secondary attach­
ment angles and clips. The aft edge of the
lower duct assembly is retained to the lower
portion of the interior flange of the tailboom
attach ring assembly by machine screws.
The lower duct assembly is fabricated with
multiple plies of graphite/epoxy. In areas
where attachment of metallic components will
occur, barrier plies of fiberglass/epoxy are
cocured to the faying surfaces. The secondary
attachment angles are fabricated from
aluminum alloy sheet.
Lower Access Panel Assembly −
The lower
access panel assembly is a non-structural
removable component. The lower access panel
assembly combines with the lower duct
assembly and forms the lower half of the aft
duct assembly. The lower access panel
assembly provides the support of the anti-
torque fan lower stator vanes and lower half of
the center diffuser. Retention of the panel
assembly is by four adjustable latches.
The lower access panel assembly is fabricated
with multiple plies of graphite/epoxy. In areas
where attachment of metallic components will
occur, barrier plies of fiberglass/epoxy are
cocured to the faying surfaces. Both the upper
and lower components of the aft diffuser are
fabricated with multiple plies of graphite/
epoxy.
