assemblies, to form the required fire proof
enclosure that contains the hot section and the
primary exhaust nozzle for each engine.
Forward Firewall Assembly −
The forward
firewall assembly is mounted at FS 240.00,
centered between the left and right forward
inlet panels and the inboard firewall assem­
blies. The assembly provides support and
attachment of the aft swashplate fairing
assembly and contains the through panel
connection provisions for the engine breather
lines, the deck and engine area fire / heat
detection system, the engine wire harnesses,
and the starter / generator wire harnesses.
The forward firewall assembly is secured by
screw attachments along the left and right
vertical edges.
The forward firewall assembly panel details,
doublers, and stiffening angles are fabricated
from titanium alloy sheet. Fastening is by
monel rivets.
Inboard Firewall Assemblies −
The left and
right inboard firewall assemblies extend aft
from the forward firewall assembly to FS
260.00. Along the upper edge, the assembly is
bolted to and supports the NOTAR
inlet duct
assembly. Each inboard firewall assembly is
fabricated from titanium alloy sheet. Fasten­
ing is by monel rivets.
Aft Firewall Assemblies −
The left and right
aft firewall assemblies attach to the aft edges
of the inboard firewall assemblies, engine deck
skins, and deck angles. They extend upward
and laterally to the inner surface of the engine
cowls. Each assembly contains mounting
flanges for the aft edge of the engine cowl, the
secondary exhaust nozzle, and the forward
edge of the exhaust ejector cowl. All compo­
nents are fabricated from titanium alloy sheet.
Fastening is by monel rivets.
4. Engine Deck Thermal Insulation
Installation
(Ref. Figure 7)
The engine deck thermal insulation installa­
tion installs the fireproof and heat insulating
blankets onto the left and right engine deck
skins. Each installation includes a forward,
aft, and inboard thermal insulation compo­
nent. All components are retain by sections of
corrosion resistant steel material that incorpo­
rates a hook and loop type fastening system.
5. Anti − Torque Fan Inlet Duct Installation
(Ref. Figure 7)
The fan duct installation is the air inlet
passage which directs air to the inlet of the
anti-torque fan, extracts airflow from the fan,
and directs the extracted flow into the
tailboom. In addition, this assembly functions
as a secondary structural component that
supports the engine firewalls and serves as the
upper aft section fairing between the left and
right exhaust ejector cowls. This assembly also
provides for the attachment of the fan inlet
screen assembly.
Fan Inlet Duct Assembly −
The fan inlet duct
has a large radius opening to enable the
smooth induction into the anti-torque system.
The duct also forms the upper fairing and
supports the fan inlet screen.
The duct is fabricated using multiple plies of
graphite/epoxy. In the areas of secondary
attachment of metallic components, local
barrier plies of fiberglass/epoxy are incorpo­
rated. The forward section of the duct is a
monolithic laminate. The aft section is a
sandwich panel and incorporates a cocured
Nomex honeycomb core. The stiffening/attach­
ment angles and interconnecting clips are
fabricated from aluminum alloy sheet.
Middle Inlet Duct Assembly −
The middle
inlet duct assembly slides over the lower
flange of the inlet duct assembly, and attaches
to the engine deck skins of the upper deck, and
to the forward frame assembly of the fan
support structure.
The left and right duct assemblies are fabri­
cated from graphite/epoxy and barrier plies of
fiberglass/epoxy cocured to any faying surface.
