Blade Retention Bolts. The
expansion bushings of the
blade retention bolts can lose tension
after installation. This can cause a loss
of the initial torque. Do the Special
Inspection retorque procedures (ref.
Section 05-20-10, Table 203, and
Section 62-10-00, Inspection/Check,
Torque Check of the (-109) Blade
Retention Bolts). Failure to do this can
cause the loss of a main rotor blade
from the rotorcraft during operation.
Do not apply lubricant or
preservative on blade reten­
tion bolts.
Make sure that the holes of
the pitchcase, flexbeam, and
blade are aligned and that the blade is
held level during installation and
clamp-up of the blade retention bolt. If
the holes are not correctly aligned and
the blade held level, the bushings of
the blade retention bolt will not
expand equally during installation and
clamp-up.
Carefully install the main rotor
blades:
Do not move the rotor blade tip up more
than
4.00 feet (1.22 m) when the rotor is
not in operation. Make small upward
movements of the flexbeam at the blade
attach point. Damage to the flexbeam can
occur.
Limit the pitchcase movement with pad­
ding (cloth, foam, packing material, etc.)
around the flexbeam with the main rotor
blade removed. This prevents damage to
the flexbeam and pitchcase.
Do not install -101 bolts with
-103, -105 or -109 bolts. If
-103, -105, and -109 bolts are installed on
the same rotor head, equally space the bolts
around the rotor head to prevent a rotor im­
balance.

(16). BLADE RETENTION BOLT (PN
900R3100001-109) -
Install blade
retention bolt (1):
(a). If necessary, move main rotor blade
(2) to let guide pin tool (T920) (3)
move freely in the lead hole.
(b). Remove cotter pin (4) from guide pin
tool (T920) (3) in the lead hole.
(c). Put retainer (5) on top of pitchcase
(8).
(d). Install O-ring (7) under bolt head
(8).
Do not align the slots of the ex­
pandable bushings of blade
retention bolt (1). Make sure the slots are
random and that adjacent slots are not
aligned.
Do not use spring clip (9) as a
lever to install blade retention
bolt (1). This is an incorrect use of the spring
clip. The spring clip can loose shape and ten­
sion if bent too much. Move the tab of the
spring clip until there is sufficient space to
install over adjustment nut (10).
NOTE:
Make small movements with main
rotor blade (2) as you install blade retention
bolts (1). Make sure the bolts freely go into
the blades. The bolts can be installed by
hand with minimum force.
(e). Install blade retention bolt (1) at the
top of pitchcase (6) as you remove
guide pin tool (T920) (3).
1). Install blade retention bolt (1)
through the aligned holes of
retainer (5), pitchcase (6), flexbeam
(11), and main rotor blade (2).
2). Make sure there is 0.25 inch (6.4
mm) (ref. Dimension C,
Figure 406) of clearance between
the bottom of bolt head (8) and the
top of retainer (5).
3). Make sure cam handle (12) is
aligned in the center of the slot of
retainer (5).
NOTE:
If necessary, lightly tap the blade reten­
tion bolt to get the bushings and collets to
release.
NOTE:
Do not remove or loosen the adjacent
blade retention bolt (1).
