DZD .. roof fans Ex e / t
• They may be used on roofs (flat, inclined, cor-
rugated or trapezoidal roofs), ceilings or brack-
ets with sufficient load-bearing capacity.
• Horizontal installation position required. Hori-
zontal air outlet direction.
• Can be switched to ventilation or air extraction.
• Can be mounted with roof flashing on suitable
roof socket or surface, e.g. with MAICO roof
socket SO.., SDS.. or SOWT..
• If connecting to ventilation ducts, folded spiral-
seams ducts with flexible couplings, feet and
vibration dampers are specified. These prevent
the transmission of vibrations to the duct sys-
tem.
16.2 Checks before mounting
1. Perform the following checks: D = detailed
check, N = close inspection, S = visual in-
spection

16.3 Unit installation
1. Check unit for transport damage.
2. Prepare installation location for duct, wall or
foot mounting: Lay ventilation duct or flexible
duct. If mounting on wall, make sure there is
a level support surface.
3. Lay a permitted power cable to the installa-
tion location. Use a connection cable suited
to the unit type.
CAUTION Risk of cuts from metal hous-
ing plates with sharp edges.
Wear personal protective equipment (cut-resist-
ant gloves) for installation.
4. DZR.. Ex e / t: Secure appropriate mounting
foot (type FU) to fan housing with self-cutting
tapping screws provided. Any installation pos-
ition can be selected. Make sure that there is
free access to terminal box at the installation
location.
5. DZQ/DZS/DZR/DZD .. Ex e / t: Transport fan
to installation location. Note safety instruc-
tions and data in the previous chapter.
DZD .. If possible, position Ex e / t, on the
roof at the installation site using a crane.
6. DZD .. Ex e / t: Use suitable insulation,
sound-absorbing and installation materials
between the unit and roof/ roof socket.
DANGER Explosion hazard/risk of injury
from an incorrectly mounted fan or a falling
fan.
Only mount on walls/ceilings with sufficient load-
bearing capacity and sufficiently dimensioned
mounting material.
Mounting material is to be provided by the cus-
tomer.
During installation, do not allow people to stand
under the installation location.
NOTICE Risks of leakages if unit is not
sealed tightly enough.
Firmly screw fan down at all flange holes.
7. Install fan and screw down securely to wall/
ceiling/roof/roof socket at all flange holes [X]
(4...16 holes, depending on type). Mounting
material of the sufficient size should be
provided by the customer. Note rotation direc-
tion and air flow direction → air direction ar-
rows on unit sticker.
8. DZR.. Mount Ex e / t with pre-fitted mounting
foot to wall, ceiling or bracket. Mounting ma-
terial of the sufficient size should be provided
by the customer.
9. DZR/DZD .. Ex e / t: Connect ventilation
ducts. Securely screw down folded spiral-
seams ducts to all fan flange holes with flex-
ible cuffs or flexible couplings (MAICO types
EL-Ex / ELAEx). Ensure seal integrity.
10.Check air gap between impeller and housing.
DZQ ../DZS ..: Check air gap between im-
peller and housing after mounting with the
gauge provided → Fig. A1, table.
DANGER Risk of explosion when operat-
ing without protective device, should foreign
bodies fall or be drawn into the air duct.
Risk of death due to spark formation.
Be sure to fit any free air inlet/outlet with a pro-
tective device that meets the requirements of
EN 13857 and is suitable for Ex areas, e.g. with
MAICO protective grille SGM ... Ex (IP 20 de-
gree of protection according to EN 60529).
When using non-Maico products, an ignition
hazard assessment must be carried out.
11.If the air inlet or outlet is not covered, mount a
permitted protective grille, e.g. MAICO pro-
tective grille SG... in front of the unit.
12.Ensure a sufficient fresh air supply intake.
13.Fit suitable insulation, sound-absorbing and
installation materials.
17 Electrical connection
DANGER Danger of electric shock.
Prior to accessing the connection terminals, dis-
connect all supply circuits.
Secure against being switched back on, check
that no voltage is present.
Earth and connect the EARTH with active parts
which are to be short-circuited.
Cover or block off neighbouring live compon-
ents.
Attach a clearly visible warning sign.
Ensure that there is no explosive atmosphere
and/or dust layers.
NOTICE Damage to unit due to speed con-
trol.
No speed control allowed.
To regulate the air power, the unit can also be
connected with an optional 5-step transformer
(e.g. MAICO TR..) (except DZ. 35/2 B Ex e/t).
17.1 Operating conditions
Operation only permitted, if following conditions
are met:
• Permanently installed electrical installation.
• Connection cable permitted for explosion risk
areas and load.
• Mains disconnect device with a contact open-
ing of at least 3 mm per pole.
• Permitted voltage and frequency → rating
plate.
• Explosion protection terminal box provided.
• Protective-conductor terminal, at mains end in
terminal box. There is a terminal on the outside
of the fan for earthing a duct system.
• Operating in intended air power range.
• Permitted operating point. The current and
power stated on the rating plate are measured
with free suction and free blow-out. They may
be higher or lower depending on the operating
point.
A PTC thermistor triggering system is es-
sential for thermal fusing. Only undertake
speed control with transformer matched to
type, e.g. with MAICO TR... Exception: DZ..
35/2 B Ex e / t not speed adjustable.
DZD .. Ex e / t: Fit repair switch on roof dir-
ectly at installation location.
17.2 Connect the fan electrically
1. Switch off power supply circuits, position a
visible sign warning against being accident-
ally switched back on.
2. Open terminal box, route cables into terminal
box and screw down with cable feedthrough.
Note tightening torques (in Nm at 20 °C).
Check tightness and tighten if necessary.

3. Electrically wire fan → Wiring diagram. Insu-
late exposed wire ends which are not
needed.
17.3 Earthing of fan and duct system
1. Connect PE conductor at mains end in ter-
minal box with explosion protection.
2. Connect PE conductor duct system to ter-
minal on outside of fan.
17.4 Direction of rotation and air
flow direction
1. Check direction of rotation and air flow direc-
tion → Arrows on fan housing. Maximum flow
rate at stated air flow direction according to
Fig. D. If the
air flow direction is reversed
,
the flow rate is reduced by around 35 %.

2. To
reverse air flow direction
, swap external
conductors L2 and L3. If the air flow direction
is reversed, check the safety and function of
the system again.
Note that, as a result, the following effects could
take place:
• The flow rate is reduced.
