How to Start a Handheld Wireless Transaction
When the device and host are configured for handheld operation using
Device-Initiated
mode, an
operator can start a transaction from the device by following these steps:

Make sure the device is connected to a wireless access point and has good signal strength (see section
6.2 How to Read Device Status)

that it wants to initiate a transaction.

Depending on how the host software is designed, the host will send various messages requesting that
the cardholder or operator enter additional information, then the device will request payment in the

If there is no network activity or user interaction for 30 seconds, the device will close the wireless
connection automatically. If this occurs, the host should cancel the transaction and the operator
should repeat these steps to initiate the transaction again.
