7.0 PLACING AN INSTRUMENT OUT-OF-SERVICE
On rare occasions, an Intoxilyzer 8000 instrument may need to be placed out-of-service by an
operator. When this occurs, there are four (4) steps an operator should perform:
1. First, determine exactly what the exception message being reported by the instrument is. This
information will be important when reporting the condition to the Oregon State Police regional
dispatch center. Also, be sure to perform the suggested correction action that is provided with
the exception message. The dispatcher will inquire as to whether the operator has performed
this step prior to placing the instrument out-of-service.
2. Second, contact the Oregon State Police regional dispatch center and provide notification of
the exception:

3. Third, leave the instrument ON and place an Out-of-Service notification placard on the
instrument to notify future operators of the condition of the instrument. Do not remove an out-
of-service placard unless authorized to do so by a trained technician of the Oregon State
Police.
4. Finally, locate an alternative testing location and continue with the testing sequence.
