Aborting a Test Sequence
During the testing sequence, an operator may choose to abort the test sequence by selecting one of
two alternative methods: a) by pressing the “Start Test” button at any time during the test sequence
other than during the breath sampling period(s); or b) by pressing the “A” key on the instrument
keyboard.
NOTE
It is suggested that operators use the instrument keyboard to abort the testing sequence. If an
operator uses the “Start Test” button to abort a test sequence while the instrument is in the breath
sampling period (i.e., the
“Please Blow”
phase), the instrument will record a “Refused” test sequence
rather than a “Sequence Aborted” test.
Breath Test Refusal
During a testing sequence, an operator may decide that a subject has, through some willful act,
refused to comply with instructions to provide an acceptable breath sample. If so, the operator should
indicate a breath test refusal by pressing “R” on the instrument keyboard or by pressing the “Start
Test” button during the breath sampling period (i.e., the
“Please Blow”
phase). The instrument will
display the “Subject Test Refused” message.
NOTE
It is suggested that operators use the instrument keyboard to indicate a refused breath test. Unless
the instrument is in the breath sampling period (i.e., the
“Please Blow”
phase) when the operator
uses the “Start Test” button to indicate a refused breath test, the instrument will record a “Sequence
Aborted” test rather than a “Subject Test Refused” result.
Subject Sample Agreement
As part of the testing sequence, the instrument will make a determination as to whether or not the
subject breath samples provided were acceptable (i.e., of proper flow rate, duration, and volume) and
whether the samples provided were in agreement (i.e., of similar alcohol concentration) with one
another. This determination is done automatically by the instrument.
If the operator receives a Completed Test Report containing a numerical Test Result, the operator can
be assured that the breath samples provided by the subject were both acceptable to the instrument
and in agreement with one another.
The value reported by the instrument will be lower value of the
two subject samples provided truncated to two-digits
(e.g., 0.089 %BAC will be reported as 0.08
%BAC).
