Spread Spectrum Installation Guide
3. The
installation of the Repeater is verified if a FieldNET RTU can “mesh” with the
Base RTU through the Repeater. To perform this test a FieldNET RTU is powered up,
the Mesh LED on the test FieldNET RTU will indicate if the test RTU can communicate
with the Base through the Repeater. Verify the Base RTU has an antenna and is
powered on. The FieldNET RTU must have the same hop pattern as the Repeater
radio module the test RTU is to communicate with. Configuration Switch 4 on the
FieldNET RTU must b
e in the rightmost “OFF” position. Connect an antenna to the
test
FieldNET RTU. To power the test RTU use a 13-8573-0 FieldNET Deutsch
–
Turk
cable and a 13-8576-0 FieldNET Turk
–
RJ11 cable. The phone plug on the 13-8576-0
cable will not be used. Connect the Red and black wires from the 13-8576-0 cable to
+12 VDC and DC common respectively. A +12 VDC lantern battery or a +12 VDC
power supply can be used. After the test FieldNET RTU is powered up the Mesh LED
should momentarily turn on. When the Mesh LED turns on the FieldNET RTU can
communicate with the Base RTU and the operation of the Repeater has been verified.
The diagram below shows how communication between the test FieldNET RTU “A”, the
Repeater “B” and
the Base RTU “C” is tested. The diagr
am below shows example hop
patterns. Use the hop patterns the installation being tested is set to.
The test RTU “A”
and the Repeater “B”
only need to be in range of each other.
Single Repeater: RTU A and left radio module of Repeater B set to hop pattern 2. Right
radio module of Repeater B and Base RTU C set to hop pattern 4.
Multiple Repeaters: To extend the range of the FieldNET system even farther multiple
RTUs can be used. RTU A and left radio module of Repeater B set to hop pattern 2.
Right radio module of Repeater B and the left radio module of Repeater C are set to
hop pattern 4. The right radio module of Repeater C and the Base RTU C are set to
hop pattern 5.
