Connecting to a PC

Refer to Figure 4-4 illustrating the LWS RS-485 Converter Kit.

Figure 4-4 LWS RS-485 Converter Kit Example

1. Disconnect power from the instrument.

2. Connect one end of a standard Cat5 cable to an LWS RS-485

converter.

3. Connect the other end of the Cat5 cable to the Communication port

on the instrument.

4. Connect the RS-232, DB9 side of the RS-485 converter to a DB9

Male to DB9 Female straight through cable. Connect the female
DB9 to any available COM port on the computer.

5. Power on the instrument.

Connecting to an RS-485 Network

To connect a PC to multiple units or RS-485 network, use a Cat5 cable
and RS-485 adapter to attach the computer to an RS-485 hub. Connect
the instrument to the hub using the Industrial RJ45 cable referred to
starting in “Cable Build” on page 3-2.

Make sure that each

NC30+

or other RS-485 instrument has a unique

address (non-zero) or a conflict will result and data will be lost.
