9.4.3 Using Analog Power-Save Mode
On your 831C, go to
Tools
System Properties
Power
.
Power-Save mode is indicated by the sleep icon
. When the meter is
not running, this mode can significantly conserve battery power, since
it shuts down the meter’s analog circuitry and signal processing
activities.
From the
Power-Save
drop-down menu, select the period the
instrument should stay powered after a measurement has stopped.
The analog circuitry, including power to the preamplifier, shuts down
when the instrument is stopped for the period you chose. Performing a
calibration, a reset, or starting a measurement restores power. The
meter can run the measurement after a short 10 second power-up.
9.4.4 Setting the Backlights On Period
On your 831C, go to Tools
System Properties
Power.
Backlights On
is the duration the 831C display is back lit after the last
key press. Selecting
Always
slightly increases power consumption.
9.4.5 Enabling or Disabling the Keypad Backlight
On your 831C, go to
Tools
System Properties
Power
.
The blue LEDs under the keypad can be enabled or disabled according
to your preference. The Red LED behind the STOP/STORE button, and
the green LEDs under the RUN/PAUSE and ON/OFF buttons are always
enabled.
TAKE NOTE
Increasing the back light brightness significantly increases the meter’s
power consumption, which decreases battery life.
Additionally, you can select the LCD screen back light intensity as a
percentage.
When battery life is below 10%, the 831C overrides this setting and
downgrades the LCD Brightness to 50%. If the user-defined setting is
below 50% brightness, it remains the same.
9.4.6 Setting the External Shutoff Voltage
On your 831C, go to
Tools
System Properties
Power
.
If desired, you can customize the external shutoff voltage. When the
voltage of an external battery drops below this value, the 831C shuts off
to prevent damage to the external batteries.
LEARN MORE
The default voltage is 10.8 volts. To customize this setting, enter a
value between 10–25 volts if your battery usage is other than a standard
12V SLA battery. For more information, see Table A.3 on page 5.
