Resetting and Testing the Network Connection
1. Shut down the server and networked computers.
2. Turn on the server.
3. Wait five minutes.
4. Turn on the networked computers.
5. Initiate a “Ping” command by following the steps
below.
Windows 98/ME
a. From the Start menu, select the Run function.
b. In the text box, type
command
and press Enter.
c. At the prompt, type
ping 192.168.0.1
and press
Enter.
Windows 2000/XP/NT
a. From the Accessories folder, select the Command
Prompt.
b. At the prompt, type
ping 192.168.0.1
and press
Enter.
Macintosh OS 9.x
a. The Ping function is not included on Macintosh
OS 9.x systems. However, you can download a
third-party software utility, such as MacTCP
Watcher, from the Internet. Using this utility, ping
the address
192.168.0.1
.
Macintosh OS X
a. From the Utilities folder, select the Network
Utility.
b. At the Ping tab, type
192.168.0.1
in the text box
and click the
Ping
button (see Figure 3-14 on the
next page).
