Cleaning and Sterilization of
Bipolar Instruments and Take-
apart

Bipolar Instruments
WARNING: Sterilization is recom-
mended for “critical” instruments to
be used for Hysteroscopy, Neuroend-
oscopy, Arthroscopy, or Laparoscopy.
WARNING: KARL STORZ bipolar
instruments are provided NON-
STERILE and should be thoroughly
cleaned and/or sterilized according
to validated infection control proce-
dures prior to use and subsequent
reuse.
Caution: Before sterilization, bipolar instru-
ments must be disassembled and thoroughly
cleaned and any organic matter, blood and
cleaning solution completely removed.
Caution: The recommended sterilization
parameters are only valid with sterilization
equipment that is properly maintained and
calibrated.
Caution: DO NOT soak bipolar cords in
any solution, including water. DO NOT com-
pletely immerse bipolar cords.
Caution: Take-apart TM Bipolar instruments
must be sterilized disassembled and
reassembled in a sterile field.
Caution: The following bipolar electrodes
are sterile, single-use instruments and must
not be reprocessed. Dispose of the electrode
after use.

Water Quality Requirements
Distilled or demineralized water is recommend-
ed for cleaning and rinsing of all instruments.
